What is Gestosis?

Description of the Disease

Gestosis is a serious complication that can occur in pregnant women. It is characterized by disturbances in the functioning of the placenta and the mother's vascular system, which can lead to various complications for both the mother and the baby.

  • Preeclampsia
  • Eclampsia
  • Late gestosis

  • Edema
  • High blood pressure
  • Abdominal pain
  • Protein in the urine

The exact causes of gestosis are unknown, but genetic factors, immune system disorders, and vascular system disturbances are believed to play a role.

For the diagnosis of gestosis, urine tests, blood pressure measurements, and ultrasound examinations are performed.

Treatment of gestosis depends on its form and severity, but usually includes blood pressure control, diet, and the use of medications to improve circulation.

For the prevention of gestosis, women are advised to lead a healthy lifestyle, monitor their blood pressure and weight, and regularly visit a doctor.

Gestosis is treated by a gynecologist or obstetrician-gynecologist.
