What is Pelviectasia?

Description of the disease

Pelviectasia is the dilation of the renal pelvis, caused by impaired urine flow. It can be congenital or acquired.

Symptoms include pain in the lumbar region, frequent urination, blood in the urine, urine stagnation.


The main cause of pelviectasia is the obstruction of urine flow from the renal pelvis, which can be caused by pathologies of the urinary system or mechanical obstructions.


Diagnosis includes kidney ultrasound, as well as MRI and CT scans.


Treatment may include medication, physiotherapy, or surgical intervention depending on the severity of the disease.


Prevention includes timely consultation with a doctor, proper nutrition, and giving up harmful habits.


The treatment of pelviectasia is carried out by a urologist or nephrologist.
