This syrup produces an expectorant effect and increases secretion of mucous from the upper respiratory tract and contribute to the dilution and the evacuation of phlegm and mucous from the lungs. The herb thyme has analgesic and expectorant properties. In a similar manner potassium bromide produces an expectorant effect and calms the central nervous system. Pertussin tincture acts as an excellent expectorant agent for acute respiratory diseases, inflammation of the trachea and bronchial tubes, and for children`s whooping cough. Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity and heart failure. Women should avoid using Pertussin during pregnancy and nursing. Recommended dosage: For internal use adults take 1 tablespoon, and children take from 1/2 teaspoon to 1 full teaspoon 3 times daily. Side effects include allergic reactions, burning, and nausea.
