What is Nodal Goiter?

Description of the disease

Nodal goiter is a condition characterized by enlargement of the thyroid gland due to the formation of nodules (intraorgan formations) in its tissues.

  • Single-nodule goiter
  • Multiple nodules
  • Mixed nodular goiter

Feeling of a lump in the throat, difficulty swallowing, discomfort when wearing high-collar clothing, changes in voice tone, and more.

The cause of nodular goiter is not always definitively established. Possible causes include iodine deficiency, hormonal imbalances, genetic predisposition, and other factors.

Thyroid ultrasound, nodule biopsy, hormonal analysis, and other methods are used for the diagnosis of nodular goiter.

Treatment of nodular goiter may include drug therapy, radioactive iodine, surgical removal of nodules.

Prevention of nodular goiter includes proper nutrition, intake of iodine-containing preparations, and regular thyroid examination.

An endocrinologist is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of nodular goiter.
